My approach

A house has its own rhythm. I work with it.

I’m Lewis, a documentary wedding photographer and filmmaker. Country houses are my favourite places to work. Each one has a morning light, a quiet room, a staircase everyone gathers on and a lawn where the evening happens.

I spend the day quietly, watching how your families and friends move through the house. I photograph what happens rather than directing it, with a short, unhurried portrait walk when the light is right. Most guests won’t remember I was there.

Before the day I talk to the house team, learn the timings and plan for weather, so you don’t have to think about any of it.

Full day from £2,600, travel included across most of the UK.

Houses

Houses I know well.

Knowing a house means knowing where the light falls, and where to stand without being in the way.

Nearby houses I’d travel to gladly

  • Euridge Manor
  • Lucknam Park
  • Whatley Manor
  • Bowood House
  • Babington House
  • Orchardleigh
  • Wasing Park
  • Englefield House
  • Cornwell Manor
  • Barnsley House
  • Cowley Manor

Somewhere not listed? Most houses I photograph for the first time become houses I know well.

How the day runs

Your day, in four parts.

01

The morning

Quiet rooms, open windows and the people closest to you. I arrive early and keep to the edges.

Guests applauding as the couple share their first kiss at an outdoor ceremony at Elmore Court

02

The ceremony

Silent cameras and no flash. I find my places beforehand, so I never need to move in front of anyone.

03

The house and grounds

A short, unhurried walk while your guests have drinks on the lawn. Twenty minutes, often less.

Guests cheering during speeches in the candlelit dining room at Grittleton House

04

The evening

Speeches, candlelight and the dance floor. I stay until the party is in full swing.

Kind words

“On the day, he just slotted right in and made everyone feel comfortable.”
Rosie & Ben · Llantilio House
“It was incredibly important to us that we didn’t spend hours away from our guests taking portraits, and Lewis completely understood that.”
Sophia & Nick · Sant Ffraed House

I also film. Photography and film from one person, so there’s one less camera in the room.

Good to know

Questions about country house weddings.

Do you know our house?

Quite possibly. I’ve photographed weddings at Elmore Court, Grittleton House, Llantilio House, Sant Ffraed House, St Tewdrics House and Dewsall Court, among others. If yours is new to me, I’ll visit or study it properly beforehand, and talk to the team there about timings and where the light falls.

Do you photograph the house itself?

Yes. The rooms, the staircase, the gardens and the way the house looks as guests arrive are part of the story, so I photograph them through the day, usually while things are quiet.

What happens if it rains?

Most houses have a wet-weather plan, and so do I. I’ll know the best rooms and covered spots in advance, and rain often makes for the most atmospheric photographs of the day.

How many photographs will we receive, and when?

Usually 600 to 800 from a full day, each one individually edited. You’ll have a few previews the same night and your full gallery within three to five weeks.

Do we need to feed you, and where do you go during dinner?

A hot meal during the wedding breakfast keeps me going until the last dance. While you eat I step out, back up the morning and prepare your previews, and I’m back before the speeches.

How do we book?

Send your date and the house using the form below. I’ll reply with availability and a link to a relaxed video call. A £300 booking fee secures the date, with the balance in instalments.
