TWIA Wales Winner ’25 & ’26 · Documentary photography & film

I’m Lewis — a TWIA award-winning South Wales wedding photographer and hybrid photo/video creator. I’ve been photographing weddings at Sant Ffraed House since it opened, and I know this venue inside out.

Below you’ll find real galleries, a quick venue guide, and my favourite photo spots — from the ceremony spaces to golden-hour portraits by the lake. I’ve also included timeline tips that help the day flow without feeling staged. My style is calm, documentary-led, with a light editorial polish — so your Sant Ffraed House wedding photography feels honest, timeless, and completely you.

Wedding Photography in Monmouthshire

Sant Ffraed House sits in the Monmouthshire countryside overlooking a lake, with a chapel on the grounds and breathtaking views of the surrounding hills. Run by the team behind Fairyhill and Oldwalls, it combines luxury with genuinely personal service. Having photographed here regularly since the venue opened, I know every corner — the light through the ceremony room windows, the golden-hour walk by the lake, and the spots most photographers miss.

Sant Ffraed House is situated in one of the most stunning parts of Wales, the fringes of the Brecon Beacons. A perfect surrounding which will create the most epic and magical wedding photography to remember, Full panoramic scenes of the sunset at the venue are also fantastic which you can also view while you enjoy your reception in the K-Room.

My approach on a wedding day is to encapsulate this beauty that the venue has to offer and create a wedding gallery that leaves everyone downloading and looking back time and time again. I’ll be there to document your guests and you, all day. No posing and no cheesy poses… Just pure natural, relaxed and great fun celebrating the best days of your lives.

Photography at Sant Ffraed House

The Grade II listed Edwardian house hosts up to 150 guests and sleeps 36 overnight — making it ideal for couples who want everyone under one roof. Ceremonies take place in the mansion or on the terrace, with receptions flowing into the bar area and K-room, all overlooking the lake and the Abergavenny hills.

From a photography perspective, Sant Ffraed House is exceptional. The natural light through the tall windows works beautifully for getting-ready shots, the terrace gives you a relaxed ceremony backdrop, and the lakeside walk during golden hour is one of the best in South Wales. I also love the way the evening light hits the front of the house — it creates something really special for portraits.

As someone who offers both photography and film as a single hybrid service, I can capture the atmosphere of this venue in a way that a photographer-only or separate videographer setup simply can’t match. One person, one presence, both mediums — no extra crew, no extra coordination.

A few regularly asked questions, incase you were wondering…

If you’re looking for 10 hours of coverage with me, investment starts at £2,600. If you’d prefer full-day storytelling with no time limits, or you’re keen to include an album, there are a couple of other options that might suit you better.

You can request my brochure and I’ll get back to you within a couple of hours, no more.

In all honesty, my approach is documentary at heart. Calm, natural, people-led — with a light editorial edge where it fits. Nothing forced. Nothing over-styled.

What matters most is what’s actually happening in front of me: you, your people, and the energy of the day as it unfolds. Weddings move quickly, so I move with them. I won’t pull you away for ages or interrupt the flow — portraits are kept relaxed, efficient, and genuinely enjoyable.

While every wedding is different, my coverage and editing are deliberately consistent. You’ll always get a cohesive, timeless set of images — and you can explore recent work below to see exactly how that looks in practice.

Sant Ffraed House is an Grade II listed Edwardian house in Monmouthshire, now fully restored as a luxury wedding venue near Abergavenny. While its earlier history isn’t extensively documented, the house has been carefully reimagined into one of South Wales’ most sought-after wedding locations.

In the late 2000s, it transitioned into a hotel, marking the first chapter of its life as a wedding venue.

Since the pandemic, the current owners have undertaken a sensitive restoration, elevating the house into the refined, exclusive wedding venue you see today. Many original Georgian features have been preserved, blending historic character with modern luxury — a huge part of what makes Sant Ffraed House wedding photography so distinctive.

Absolutely. I photograph weddings at Sant Ffraed House regularly, so the flow, light, and pace of the place are second nature to me. If timings allow, I’m also happy to meet you at the venue for a relaxed walk-through — just check in with the coordinators first.

I work closely with the venue team and trusted suppliers to make sure everything runs smoothly, without it ever feeling over-managed. And because I know the house and grounds so well, I can guide you to the strongest photo spots on the day — we’ll talk through all of that properly on our call.

Absolutely — a short list is welcome.

My priority is documenting what matters to you, egos fully parked. I work fluidly, responding to the energy of the day and the moments that naturally unfold, while keeping your vision front and centre.

I usually recommend a concise list for key people during formal portraits. Beyond that, I’ll lean on my eight years of experience to photograph your guests candidly — as you know them — without adding pressure or pulling people out of the moment.

If there’s something specific that matters, tell me. Trust the rest to me.

If it rains on your wedding day, it’s genuinely fine. You can’t control the weather — and honestly, it often brings everyone closer together. Guests gather, the energy lifts, and the atmosphere feels warmer and more intimate.

Worried about photos outside? We’ve got options. A quick wander with a simple umbrella. Sheltering under the trees. Or leaning fully into what Sant Ffraed House does best — elegant interiors, beautiful light, and loads of character. If the rain really commits, your portraits will still feel relaxed, stylish, and very you.

And if you like a bit of symbolism: rain is said to be good luck. A wet knot, once tied, is harder to undo than a dry one.

Wedding photography isn’t just about having someone there with a camera. It’s about having a professional who knows how to see moments before they happen, work calmly under pressure, and create a complete, honest record of your day — not just highlights.

A professional wedding photographer understands light, timing, people, and flow. They know where to be without being seen, how to work fast when plans shift, and how to make sense of chaos quietly. Your day only happens once. There are no retakes.

Your images are also properly backed up, carefully culled, and edited with intention — so your gallery feels consistent, timeless, and considered, not over-filtered or rushed. This is the difference between images that look good for a week, and photographs you’ll come back to for decades.

And while phone content creators have their place, they’re not a replacement for professional coverage. A phone can capture snippets. It can’t handle changing light, fast movement, or the responsibility of documenting a once-in-a-lifetime event. Your wedding deserves more than a battery percentage and a phone size highlight reel.

Photography is the only thing that lasts when the day is over. Choosing a professional means choosing peace of mind — and photographs that will still matter long after trends, apps, and algorithms move on.
