My approach
I’m Lewis, a documentary wedding photographer and filmmaker. A church service is the one part of the day I treat with real care. I speak to the vicar first, follow the rules of the building and stay out of the aisle.
No flash, no shutter noise and no moving about during the vows. Once the service is over I’m with you for everything around it: the confetti in the churchyard, the bells, the car and the walk down the lane.
Families tend to be at their closest in church. Those are the photographs people return to.
Full day from £2,600, travel included across most of the UK.
Recent weddings

A service in their village church, the dog waiting in the doorway, then a tipi in the fields.

A small Cotswold church, a churchyard full of confetti and a walk through the meadow afterwards.

The few minutes between church and reception are often the happiest. I make sure they’re photographed.
On the day
Before
I arrive early, introduce myself to the vicar and find my places. Then I photograph your guests arriving and the last minutes before the doors open.
During
Silent cameras, no flash and no movement during the vows. The signing of the register, if your church allows it.
After
The churchyard, family groups by the lychgate and the drive away. I go ahead so I’m there when you arrive at the reception.

Kind words
“From the very moment I opened the door to Lewis on the wedding morning I knew I was going to be in good hands.”
“Nearly every one of our guests has commented on how great Lewis was.”
I also film. The vows, the readings and the bells, recorded quietly from the back of the church.
Photography and filmGood to know
I’ll introduce myself to your vicar or minister before the service, either on the day or by email beforehand. Every church has its own guidance, and I follow it.
No. I never use flash during a service, and my cameras are completely silent.
Usually at the back, then a quiet side aisle or the chancel steps if your vicar is happy with that. I find my places before anyone arrives, so I don’t move during the vows or prayers.
Yes, where the church allows it. Many ask for a few posed photographs after the signing, which I keep short.
Yes. I photograph you leaving the church and the car pulling away, then drive ahead so I’m there when you arrive.
Yes. A village church followed by a marquee in the family garden is one of my favourite days. I plan the timings and travel so nothing is missed between the two.
