Monosecco | Photo Booth Alternative for Weddings & Events

Monosecco · The photo booth alternative

The photo booth has had its day.

Monosecco is a pop-up portrait studio for the evening of your wedding, party or event. A backdrop, one light and a photographer, making black and white portraits of the people in the room, with a print for every guest to take home.

Why not a booth

A person, not a timer.

A photo booth gives you a screen, a countdown and a box of props. People queue, pull a face at a lens, and the pictures come out looking much like every other booth at every other wedding.

Monosecco swaps the machine for a photographer. I set up a simple backdrop and one light near the bar or the dance floor, then spend the evening making portraits of your guests in twos, threes and whole tables. I know when to wait for the laugh and when to take it. Everything is black and white, so the whole evening sits together as one set.

After dark

Everyone looks famous after 9pm.

How it works

Monosecco, in four parts.

01 · The set-up

A corner, a backdrop, one light.

I need a few metres of floor, inside or out. A garden, an orangery, the end of the bar. It goes up quietly before the evening starts and takes nothing away from the day.

02 · The evening

Two hours, twos and threes.

Once the first dance is done, the backdrop opens for two hours. Guests drift over on their own: old friends, new partners, three generations at once. Nobody waits long, and nobody needs telling what to do.

03 · The look

Black and white, every time.

Flash, a clean backdrop and plenty of contrast. The same look on every frame, so the set reads as one evening rather than a pile of phone pictures.

04 · To take home

A print on the night, the rest to download.

Every guest leaves with a print in hand. The full set is edited and shared in an online gallery afterwards, ready to download and pass on to the people in them.

Weddings and events

For the part of the night people remember.

Your wedding

Alongside your photography

I photograph your day up to the first dance, then move to the backdrop for two hours. If you want the dance floor covered as well, add a second photographer for those two hours.

Already booked

In place of a booth

If you already have a photographer, Monosecco can be booked on its own for two hours of your evening. It does the job a booth would, with better pictures at the end of it.

Parties and events

Anywhere people dress up

Birthdays, anniversaries, brand launches and work evenings, in the UK and abroad. Anywhere a room full of people has made an effort and deserves a proper portrait of it.

Good to know

Questions about Monosecco.

Is Monosecco a photo booth?

It does the same job, giving guests a portrait from the evening, but with a photographer behind the camera instead of a timer. No screen, no props, and no queue of people working out which button to press.

How much space do you need?

A few metres of floor, inside or out. I will talk it through with your venue beforehand and find the corner that works, usually close to the bar or the dance floor so people drift over naturally.

Does it work outside?

Yes. Several of the portraits on this page were made in a garden after dark, with the one light doing the work.

Is everything in black and white?

Yes. One consistent black and white look across the whole evening, so the portraits hold together as a set.

How long does it run?

Two hours, usually starting straight after the first dance, when the evening guests have arrived and everyone has had a drink.

Who photographs the dance floor while you are at the backdrop?

If I am your wedding photographer too, I cover the day up to and including the first dance, then move to Monosecco. If you want the dance floor photographed during those two hours, you can add a second photographer.

Can we book Monosecco if you are not our wedding photographer?

Yes. It can be booked on its own for two hours, in place of a photo booth. Send your date and venue and I will let you know what is possible.

What do guests take home?

A print to take home on the night. The full set is edited afterwards and shared in an online gallery, ready to download.

Do you travel for Monosecco?

Yes. Weddings, parties and commercial events across the UK, and abroad.

How do we check availability?

Send your date, your venue and roughly how many guests using the form below. I will reply personally with availability and the details.
